On Monday, Sept. 24th the following was sent out to all of the Ballantrae Angler’s Club members:
Join us for the great Beach Adventure, Monday, October 15th, we are all going to meet at Conchy Joe's Restaurant on the Indian River Lagoon, have happy hour appetizers and cocktails, and then go fishing. We will gather at Conchy's starting at 4:00 PM and leave promptly at 5:00 PM to go over to a YTBD (yet to be determined) beach and with a little luck get in on one of the most exciting fishing adventures you can possibly have from shore. Starting about now (it's okay to begin today if you like excitement) you can travel up and down the Hutchinson Island beaches in search of migrating schools of mullet that are heading south. Millions of them I tell ya, millions. The good news is that the predators, tarpon, jack crevalle, snook, bluefish, mackeral, kingfish and shark are feeding on them as they move down the beach. Most often the bait and predators are right next to he beach within easy casting distance. Bring whatever trusty pole, you have and your best choice of a 'Storm' lure and a big 'Rappala' diving lure, they will get some action. I suggest you bring a second spool of line to replace the one you could loose on the first big fish you get on. Please invite your non fishing spouse, if we are lucky, just the sight of the action we expect is remarkable. No trek to be beach is complete without good spirits and a very nice chardonnay. Bring your dinner to the beach picnic style if you are so inclined. If you want more details about fishing gear or beach gear, do not hesitate of call me at home (772) 398-8500.
Paul Daly, (50 years experience fishing the beaches)
PS: There was a great picture of two big sharks, close to shore, feeding in a school of mullet on a Ft. Pierce beach, in the Stuart News yesterday. That is what I am talking about. The mullet are moving now, I suggest you scout the beaches before October 15th, be sure a have a pole in your car when you go.
This is your chance to expand your fishing experience and knowledge by learning from a pro during what promises to be the “right time” as expressed by the article on the next page.
