Fish limits: Know the following before you cast a line: · Bluefish must be at least 12 inches to the fork of the tail. The daily limit is 10.
· Spanish mackerel must be at least 12 inches to the fork. The daily limit is 15.
· Tarpon must be released unless anglers have a $50 tarpon tag.
· Snook must be 28 to 32 inches in total length, limit one per day.
· Mangrove snapper must be at least 10 inches in total length, limit five per day. It's the sound of the fall migration of mullet along South Florida beaches.
Schools of small finger mullet and larger 10-inch mullet are moving south along the beaches. Sardines schools also can be found along the beaches and at inlets. Mullet are moving through inlets and into the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Indian and St. Lucie rivers.
And why do anglers find joy in that sound? The migration of mullet brings tarpon, snook, jacks, ladyfish and other species that feed on the mullet closer to shore, making for one of the prime times of the year for fishing.
