Text Box: Member Successes

Frank Toner and Barb Pfeiffer have spent their summer in Atlantic City, New Jersey where they had considerable success in catching some local favorites while fishing aboard Franks Grady-White, Solas. All together, over three trips Frank managed to land 12 Flounder and 9 Sea Bass, while Barb out did him with 25 Flounder and 4 Sea Bass, putting her in the lead for the Flounder category in our annual tournament.

snook from the south jetty, and put the extras on ice. Bradford takes his spare mullet home, soaks them in a brine solution, then freezes them.

While Bradford fished, schools of mullet moved into Fort Pierce Inlet against the outgoing tide. The water erupted from time to time when predator fish (probably snook or tarpon) feasted in the mullet clusters.

Snook, tarpon, bluefish, jacks and sharks have been following mullet schools along the beaches of Hutchinson Island.

"If it hits a mullet, it's here," said Geoff Quatraro of White's Tackle Shop in Fort Pierce.

At Hobe Sound Beach, anglers are catching small bluefish, Spanish mackerel and mangrove snappers up to 2 pounds on cut bait, said Jim Cargill of Hobe Sound Bait & Tackle. Tarpon, pompano and a few bonefish also have been caught from the beach recently.

Cargill attributes the action to the combination of bait in the surf and the region's recent drought, which stopped discharges of Lake Okeechobee water that eventually flows out the St. Lucie Inlet.
