Text Box: Pass the Baton

On March 1st, 2000 the six month old Ballantrae Angler’s Club published its first issue of the Angler’s Tales. It was a four page issue, printed in Black and White, and mailed to the members on the first of each month. The format was changed for the July 1st, 2001 issue when we started emailing copies to the members with email addresses. This change allowed us to reduce our printing costs and provide full color photographs of our member’s angling successes and events.

Our current internet Web Page format, which allows for more photo flexibility, greater numbers of pages, hot links to other websites, an archive of past issues, and a more efficient publishing process, was introduced with our January 1st, 2002 issue.

All in all, this issue of the Angler’s Tales is our 94th consecutive monthly release, and frankly, I believe it’s time for some fresh eyes and ideas to take over the helm. The longevity and success of the newsletter has been the result of the great content provided by many of our members in the form of articles and photos, while my role has been to pull it together, get it published, and distributed.

After almost nine years, I’m getting tired,

becoming a bit stale, and I would like to pass on the baton. I have all of the past files, a complete set of copies of the past issues, and a process to publish which works, and can easily be learned by someone with some basic skills and knowledge of desktop publishing,

My deadline is the 100th issue, at which time I plan to shut down the publication process, unless one of you has come forward and agreed to take it on. I will provide all of the materials and teach him or her during a reasonable transition process. The sooner we start the more likely the transition will be seamless, and the more likely there will not be an interruption in our member communication.

It has been a very rewarding and satisfying experience for me, and I hope a new Angler’s Tales will evolve and grow with our very successful club.
