Text Box: Pond Fishing Report

On November 13 at 3pm fourteen anglers arrived at the pond next to the 18th hole.  Ron Klowden was the first to arrive at 10 minutes before everyone else.  On his second cast he tied into a rather big large mouth bass.  I was able to get my hand in its mouth so the fish could be measured.  It was a good 19 inches long and our estimate was a 4 ½ pounder.  I failed to bring my camera, as did Ron so I got a piece of thin rope and we kept the fish alive until Ron returned with his camera.  Pictures were taken and the fish was released.  By the time of the release nearly all the other anglers had arrived to see Ron’s trophy bass.

My intent for the afternoon was to give a 10-15 minutes speech on the basics of pond fishing.  Everyone that came to fish knew as much as I, except for one person.  Those that knew what they were doing scattered to various spots around the pond.  We fished for 2 hours and there were several smaller bass caught as well as a sunfish or two.  We tried the whole gamut of artificial lures.

We tried top water, shallow running lures, spinners, all kinds of plastics and even Don Thompson showed us his prowess with his flyrod.

It was a fun time and we decided the next pond date would take place along side the fifth hole.  It was also suggested that beer, wine, and snacks are provided and I will see to that.  Your Board has also authorized me to give a prize of my choosing.  So the next pond fishing date will be Tuesday, December 11 at 3pm.  Please join us for some more pond fishing action.  Ron Klowden tells me that in addition to bass that pond has produced snook and tarpon as well as large catfish; so plan your equipment accordingly. - Gerry Stevens
