Text Box: Pond Fishing Report

The second of three pond fishing events took place on Tuesday, December 11th at 3pm.  Our Sgt. at Arms, Ray Clarke, brought his bell to signal the start of fishing and to prevent Ron Klowden from sneaking in a few casts too early.

Fishing was a bit slow due to higher than normal winds but 18 anglers took part along with another four spectators to urge us on.  Some of the fish caught were a 15" bass by Ed Glater, a 26" eel (defined in Webster's Dictionary to include three references to the word FISH), and a 25" snook by Don Thompson.

However, the big catch of the day was by Ray Clarke.  His was a whopper of a tale.  He had just finished fishing (along with a few beers along the way) and put his rod on his golf cart. The lure he was using was dangling off the cart.   A Ballantrae resident was riding by in a golf cart and caught Ray's lure.  Every inch of line was taken from Ray's lure and then we heard a snapping sound.  Gonzo!!!

This called for a search party.  Detectives Clarke and Fowler then proceeded on a mission. They followed the line in the street to a neighbor's house and retieved the lure and line.  Thus, we have the biggest catch; it was so big it spooled Ray's entire reel.  The end result was a 1000 pound golf cart.  Unfortunately, a golf cart as defined by Webster does not contain the word FISH.  Sorry, Ray!

An announcement on the third and final pond fishing event will be in the January 2008 newsletter.  As one of our anglers so aptly put it, "I hope someone catches a fish larger than 26 inches.  I'd hate to see a tournament fish win the pond fishing prize".

Thanks to all for a fun afternoon of fishing.  A special thanks to Barb Pfeiffer and Dee Poletti.  Those ladies kept the jokes to a new level of respectability.

Happy New Year!
