May is an important month for our Anglers’ Club. On the fourth Monday of this month, the board and committees will put together the calendar and events for the upcoming year, 2008-2009. You have from now until that meeting on May 26th to give me your comments, suggestions, and any other input on things you think we should or should not do next year. Please get involved as we can use your help. We respect your opinions.
I would also like to hear your thoughts about our first carry-in dinner at the Santa Lucia Clubhouse. Success or…..? From my perspective, I thought the Clubhouse went far above what was expected of them and did a great job. The only thing the Clubhouse was obligated to do was to serve for the cash bar. In addition, however, the Clubhouse set up for the food, cleaned the tables, and washed some of our members’ dishes.
These last items were supposed to have been the jobs of our committee. Because we were at the Clubhouse, I think our members thought it was the Clubhouse’s obligation because they were getting paid for it. Such was not the case. The deal was just that they let us use the Clubhouse for our dinner and they get the receipts for the cash bar. In that respect it went well as the Clubhouse was happy with the bar intake.
We did have a problem with the food line, so all should understand how it works. Joyce arranges for each member to bring a selected dish to serve enough food for ten to fifteen members. This is theoretically enough food to serve over one hundred people. We had eighty folks at the dinner. As it turned out, the first in line had a huge appetite (to put it in as nice a way as possible) and left the line with plates piled high! Others would say that the very first in line were maybe inconsiderate. The result was that the last of those in the line ended up with very little to choose from. Maybe the answer is having volunteer servers next time. Let me know what you think and how we can improve.
Our anglers are active as we have six in the Keys fishing at this writing. We are just now beginning to be able to fish out-side, plus we have a Bahamas trip coming soon.
Thanks and Good fishing, Hal Hal
